The Future of Digital Media and Marketing Discussed at Bartın Vocational School

At the symposium titled “New Media, New Marketing: Dynamics of the Digital Age,” organized by the Specialization and Project Support Commission of Bartın University Bartın Vocational School, the transformative effects of digitalization on media, marketing, and business processes were discussed. Held online, the event addressed different dimensions of digital transformation through an interdisciplinary perspective.

In his opening speech, the Rector of the university, Ahmet Akkaya, emphasized that communication has been one of the most powerful drivers of societal transformation throughout human history. Highlighting the shift toward an interaction-based communication culture with the rise of new media, he stated that universities have the responsibility to educate individuals equipped with the knowledge and skills required by the digital age. He also noted that the symposium provided an opportunity to evaluate digital transformation from both academic and practical perspectives while strengthening university–industry–society interaction.

Chaired by Barış Bulunmaz from Mersin University Faculty of Communication, the program began with an introductory presentation titled “Digital Media and Cultural Transformation.” Speakers from various universities and disciplines evaluated the transformation in media, marketing, and business processes in the digital age from different perspectives.

Yasemin Bilişli from Akdeniz University Vocational School of Social Sciences discussed the influencer economy and digital trust in the age of artificial intelligence, while independent researcher Hakan Bilişli evaluated new educational approaches and the concept of digital citizenship. Barış Armutçu from Iğdır University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences addressed the use of artificial intelligence in marketing, and Nazlıcan Dindarik from Kastamonu University evaluated the impact of new media on smart logistics and supply chain processes in the era of digital transformation.

Following the presentations, participants actively engaged in the Q&A session, contributing to an interactive atmosphere throughout the symposium. At the end of the program, certificates of appreciation were presented to the speakers for their contributions and to the session chair for his role in the event.

The symposium concluded with a closing speech by the Director of Bartın Vocational School, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Arslan, who stated that the event made significant contributions to students’ ability to evaluate the dynamics of digital media and marketing in the digital age from an academic perspective.
