Signatures were signed in the project in which BARU will contribute to salep cultivation.

The contract was signed within the scope of the project supported by the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA) of Bartın University (BARU) and aiming the protection and production of salep plant.

The contract was signed for the project to be carried out within the scope of the 2024 Social Development Support Programme (SOGEP) Anatolians in Anatolia Programme carried out by the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA). With the program under the coordination of the General Directorate of Development Agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, training processes for the production of salep plant in Bartın will be carried out to both encourage and protect the species.

Signatures were signed in the project.

In the project, where Bartın University (BARU) is the applicant and Bartın Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry is the participant, the signatures were signed by BAKKA Secretary General Mehmet Çetinkaya and BARU Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun. In the signing ceremony held in Bartın 15 July Martyrs Meeting Hall with the participation of Bartın Governor Dr. Nurtaç Arslan, Bartın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Yasin Önder, Bartın Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. Ayşe Genç Lermi, BAKKA Bartın Investment Support Office Coordinator Dr. Şahin Baş, Head of Sustainable Development Unit Ümran Öztürk Can, Zonguldak Investment Support Office Specialist Kübra Birhan and project coordinator Dr. Lecturer Cevdet Gümüş from the Department of Plant and Animal Production. Member Cevdet Gümüş also took part.

Laboratory, education, production, grant support...

A tissue culture laboratory will be established to carry out production activities within the project's scope titled ‘Anatolians - Sustainable Salep Production’. In this laboratory, it is planned to produce salep seedlings from salep orchid seeds, which grow naturally in Bartın and are endangered, to provide salep cultivation training to the target group of 19 people, and to encourage salep production by donating the seedlings produced as a result of the project to the target group for 3 years.

BARU Rector Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun emphasized the importance of the cooperation protocol made in order to protect our natural resources and support local development and said, ‘We contribute to local development with our research and science production ecosystem, which we have transformed into a culture at our university and made it sustainable. Starting from where we are, we carry out projects that will support the producers of our province and add value to both our country and our region. With these thoughts, we would like to thank Dr. Lecturer Cevdet Gümüş, the project coordinator, for his efforts that are in line with the mission of our university, reaching the society and producing value. I would like to congratulate Prof. Dr. Ayşe Genç Lermi, Director of Bartın Vocational School, for their devoted contributions to our institutional progress. I would like to thank Dr. Nurtaç Arslan, Governor of Bartın and Mehmet Çetinkaya, Secretary General of BAKKA for their support for our work in line with the development of our city and region, and I wish the contract to be auspicious. I would like to thank Mr. Yasin Önder, Bartın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, who will contribute to the project, and our BAKKA Investment Support Office Coordinator Dr. Mr. Şahin Baş and Expert Bahadır Kalecik from the Investment Support Office for their support for local development. I would also like to express my gratitude to our Higher Education Council President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and our Higher Education Council members who always motivate us in our march towards the future.’
